When you use many DeFi apps, you grant a token allowance to a contract. “Unlimited approval” means the contract can spend more of your tokens than you need right now.
Unlimited isn’t always necessary
If you only plan to swap or stake a small amount, a limited allowance is usually safer. You can re-approve when you need it again.
Safer day-to-day habits
- Approve the exact amount (or a near amount) when possible.
- Check allowances you’ve previously granted.
- Revoke approvals for contracts you no longer use.
Small action, big impact
Revoking old approvals can reduce the damage if a contract is compromised or replaced.
